Although it will not be possible to hold the festival in its normal format this year, the organisers are already coming up with a plan to organise things differently to celebrate the festive season, despite restrictions.
The re-imagined event will take place over the weekend of 12 and 13 December and Downton residents will be invited to submit photographs of their decorated tree, wreath, table centre, nativity scene, garden tree.......or even whole house (wherever their imagination may go!) to form a virtual Village Christmas Trail, which will then be made available online.
The intention is to include some music, activities for children and even virtual cake.
The organisers add, "After what has been a very difficult year for many, we will include larger entries, that can be viewed from the street, in a physical Downton Christmas Trail with the aim of cheering up the whole village. We hope people will still be willing to share Christmas goodwill by making a donation, which this year will be to a mental health charity."
Fuller details will be available in the next issue.
