Community initiatives at the Co-op

Downton Co-op Local Community Fund

Representatives of three local charities visited the Co-op store recently to celebrate receiving a share of the money raised from last year’s community fund.  Customer Team Leader Laura Wythes and Member Pioneer Amy Newson would like to say ‘a huge thank you’ to Co-op members who helped raise over £7900 to share between the good causes, with each receiving over £2000.

Downton District Girlguiding will use the money raised to go towards trips and activities, and to provide opportunities for young people who missed out previously due to lockdown restrictions.

Downton 4 Family’s money will go towards the running costs of the charity, allowing them to provide valuable support to local families.

The Trafalgar School Association will put the funding towards buying new exam desks and storage.

Next years Local Community Fund Causes have been announced, and the Co-op are proud to be supporting:

Morgan’s Vale and Woodfalls CE Primary School

Downton Bands

Downton's Co-op Member Pioneer

Across the country, the Co-op have a network of “Member Pioneers” to bring together Co-op members, colleagues, and local causes to make communities better places to work, play, live and learn. Downton’s Member Pioneer is Amy Newson.  Amy says: “I have been in post since March and am really enjoying getting to know more about the community and getting to know lots of people. I am local and have lived here for the past 6 years. If you would like to find out more about what I do or have any ideas on how the Co-op can support our local community, please do contact me amy.newson@coop.co.uk".
