Would you like to contribute to the success of Downton Primary school?

To play a part in the education of the next generation?

The governing body of Downton C of E VA Primary School has vacancies and is looking for committed volunteer governors from the community to enhance the team.  Governors are people with a diverse variety of skills and expertise who have committed to work together using their individual experience for the benefit of the school community and thus the wider local community.

A governor should have:

  • Commitment to young people and the local community

  • A willingness to learn new skills

  • An ability to support others

  • An ability to listen, analyse, question and challenge

  • An understanding and commitment to the Christian ethos of the school

Typically, a governor may have:

  • Experience of being a board member in another sector or a governor/trustee in another school

  • Understanding and experience of strategic planning

  • Ability to analyse data

  • Links with the community and local businesses

  • Financial acumen

Governors are appointed by either the Diocesan Board of Education or the local Parochial Church Council.  The term of office is normally four years.  Together with the senior leadership of the school, governors ensure that the highest quality of education is being provided for the pupils enabling them to be the successful adults of tomorrow.
