Downton Band

Summer programme

Downton Band

On Sunday 30 June, there will be a concert in the Moot at 3pm, where all 3 bands will be performing. The concert will be free to attend - an opportunity for an afternoon out and a picnic.

In July, the band will be performing all 3 days of the New Forest Show in the Village Green. This year they are making no charge, as a gesture of good will to the show’s committee, and are still looking for local businesses to sponsor their attendance. The band will be making a banner to be on display at the event to showcase the names and logos of the sponsors.

The main event on the calendar for August - and to round off the summer -  is the Stourpaine Entertainment contest at The White Horse. This event hosts a different brass band every Sunday evening across the summer months with Downton performing on the 18 August.

Despite the cancellation of the Cuckoo Fair, all 3 Downton bands (beginners, training and senior) performed at a concert on 4  May (in conjunction with St Laurence Church) at the Memorial Hall.

At the end of May, the band travelled to Stockport for their annual appearance in the Whit Friday Brass Band competition, part of the Saddleworth Brass Band tradition.  The event dates back to the 1880's and bands play in a variety of village locations, with adjudicators listening in whatever accommodation can be found - nearby village halls, libraries - even caravans. The competition starts at lunchtime and ends late in the evening and the local community always turns out in numbers to support the bands.

More information on the band’s activities is on their website - or contact them via their Facebook page: facebook.com/downtonband
