Five return from Kenya

A local team of skilled specialists have returned from rural Kenya, where they were working with local nurses, providing training and updates.  In planning the training, the team had to take into account limited access to physical assets and resources. There is often no regular access to training for nursing staff in rural Kenya, so the team was pleased to be able to help.  An additional benefit of the sessions was that the local nurses had an opportunity to take some much needed time out, which enabled them to connect with colleagues and feel valued.

As part of the learning exchange the volunteers visited a local hospital and learnt how their peers work in rural Kenya, and discussed the challenges they face.

They also spent time with staff from Matumaini Rehabilitation Centre (MRC), teaching about communication strategies for children with disabilities such as autism and cerebral palsy. Here they developed a new sensory room - to provide a range of calming and stimulating sensory experiences.

They ran a medical camp for the communities of Tumaini and Kiambogo.  Supported by local clinicians, and MRC, they offered services such as family planning, immunisations, HIV testing and counselling, TB screening, mental health services.

The team raised over £9500 to make the trip possible, and would like to thank everyone who contributed and enabled them to support the communities they visited.
