Lover Repair Cafe in Downton
Looking for volunteers from the village
Lover Repair Cafe has arrived in Downton. The cafe is now opening on the first Saturday of each month at Downton Baptist Church, from 10am - 1pm, branded as “The Workshop”. This is an opportunity for those who have found it difficult to visit on a weekday to bring their items to repair at a more convenient time. They are now looking for more helpers from the Downton area. A spokesman said: “Skill or no skill, we would like to see you. Just pop in for a chat about joining us!”
The Downton session is in addition to their usual opening hours of 10am - 12pm at Redlynch Village Hall.
The team has now exceeded 500 repair sessions - and raised over £40,000 for a variety of local charities, including Salisbury Hospital and Lover Baby Bank. They will be at the Moot Fest on 22 September, where they will be selling items from their stock of donated and repaired projects. Currently they have coffee tables, radios and bikes on offer.
The team will repair furniture, ceramics, electrical goods, clothing items or old treasures - in exchange for a donation to charity. Currently they have a vacancy for a volunteer who can repair books.
