A new way to exercise: Pickleball at Downton Leisure Centre

Did you know that a Pickleball Club has been running in Downton for over 5 years?  The 1st New Forest Pickleball Club plays at the Downton Leisure Centre on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5.15 - 7.00pm and is now looking for new members.

Pickleball was devised in the USA and in recent years the sport has grown quickly in the UK.  It is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. It is played on a badminton court with the net at the height of tennis net. It is usually played as doubles (men’s, ladies’ and mixed) and the environment is both sociable and fun. It is popular because a new player can soon get enjoyment without the frustration of some sports, and players with racket sport experience can quickly transfer their skill to pickleball.

Having been closed during the lockdowns, the club will restart playing on 18 May (with arrangements to comply with covid regulations).

Familiarisation sessions can be arranged for anyone interested in playing and people would be welcome to watch play on Tuesday and Thursday to see how the game is played and meet some of the members.  There is plenty of information online if you want to research a bit further.
