Tennis courts are open again

Downton tennis club has opened its courts to everyone in the village.  With tennis being one of the few activities allowed and with the continued restrictions on households, the committee felt that the club should offer its excellent facilities to all to support the community in keeping active during this difficult time. Therefore, until further notice, the courts will be available to book free of charge for all non members.

The courts have already re-opened for restricted play for members (singles with any member or doubles with members of the same household) and although people have been playing, the courts are currently under-utilised.  This is understandable given that many members prefer to play doubles whilst others continue to self isolate. Also, with all club sessions cancelled, all courts are now available 7 days a week from 8 am to 9 pm, providing more access.

If you or a family member/friend would like to access and play - or try tennis again for fun / exercise / for a change - then please e-mail

You must agree that you will adhere to the Lawn Tennis Association coronavirus guidelines - the most important of which is that all courts MUST be booked on line to ensure social distancing is enacted.  You will be then be provided with the online booking access procedure and further clarity about the guidelines which the club are following.

Clearly members will take priority and the club will keep the situation under review to ensure that members are not being disadvantaged.  However, the hope is  that there will be availability for all over the next few weeks.
