What is the Local Governing Body’s role?

The Local Governing Body (LGB) is appointed by, and reports to, the Magna Learning Partnership Trust Board.  Its role is to provide focused governance for the academy at a local level.  It does this by supporting, challenging and encouraging its academy in two principal areas:  Vision, ethos and strategic direction, and the educational performance of the academy (pupils and staff).

About the Trust

Magna Learning Partnership was formed in April 2017 and is a group of primary and secondary schools and one sixth form college in Salisbury and the surrounding area.  The core aim of the Partnership is to improve and further develop the quality of education provision for the benefit of all young people in the area, by creating a sustainable education partnership that, through the achievements of its young people enhances the reputation of education across Salisbury.

Currently the Trust comprises: Bemerton St John Primary School, Pembroke Park Primary School, The New Forest Primary School, Sarum Academy, Salisbury 6th Form College, The Trafalgar School and Wyvern St Edmund’s Learning Campus.

The governors within Magna Learning Partnership come to us through a variety of routes and with a range of different backgrounds, skills and experiences, but they are all volunteers who work together for the benefit of the academies and are the link between the academy and the community it serves.

What can we offer?

  • A chance to develop skills in strategic management

  • The opportunity to work with our team of governors and staff in improving our academies

  • A sense of achievement in making a difference to our academy

  • The pleasure of helping students reach their potential
