'Stretch and Flex' quiz raises funds
Emma Ferguson, who runs New Forest Pilates and lives in Downton, organised and hosted a Zoom charity quiz in support of 'Downton for Family' for all of her Pilates clients who have been following her live online classes during lockdown. Emma was keen to support a local charity and ‘Downton 4 Family’, who work within Downton and the surrounding villages to support families when they are facing challenging times using a family mentoring system, have been extremely grateful for her fundraising support during this difficult time.
Emma hosted the quiz and asked for voluntary donations and the support and generosity of everybody resulted in the quiz raising more than £780 at the last count. Emma commented: "I have been overwhelmed and so incredibly proud of how much money we have raised. It was wonderful to see everybody dressing up for the occasion and coming together to support our local community."
Emma and Helen taking a well-earned break
Not only were there the quiz questions on the night but also a Pilates 'stand up and stretch' session half way through to keep everybody moving. Emma explains: "Pilates is such a fun and manageable form exercise for all ages, with my most mature client being 88 years young! We need to ensure that we maintain mobility in order to stay flexible and strong, as sedentary behaviour is detrimental to our overall health."
Helen Holgate, programme leader with 'Downton 4 Family' comments: "We are so very grateful for the generosity and support of Emma and her New Forest Pilates clients. The incredible amount raised will make a huge difference in our ability to provide support to local families. It is particularly encouraging to see our community supporting one another in this way. We are very grateful to Emma and her clients.
Emma is passionate about making Pilates affordable and accessible to everybody, so as well as her live online classes, she has also developed a website where you can access pre-recorded videos at a time that suits you, this is ideal for beginners and improvers. Downton 4 Family have been hugely supported through these tough months by the Downton Co-op and the food bank initiative.
They would like to extend a big thank you to the Co-op, their staff and all those people who have supported the food bank collection point at the Downton Co-op. The Co-op has been working with The Trussell Trust and Downton Baptist Church to provide this service. In excess of 460kg of food (the weight of an average horse) has been delivered to The Trussell Trust, to be packed into balanced food parcels which have then been distributed to the local families supported by the charity.
Ray and Sue, the team behind Charity Cars, have been rebooking the cars for weddings from last year for this coming season. All monies raised by Charity Cars are donated straight to D4F. More details at downton4family.org.uk.
