Downton Link

Celebrating a special birthday

One of Downton Link’s most regular clients celebrated her 100th birthday over the summer.  Dorothy Elphick was the guest of honour at an afternoon tea party, held for the Link’s regulars.  She has been an active participant in the Link for over 25 years - first as a volunteer driver, and now as a client, who enjoys the transport service.  She was presented with a framed certificate by Link Chairman, John Matthews, acknowledging her dedicated contribution and involvement with Downton Link over such a long period.  A birthday cake was cut and shared with Team members and some of her fellow clients.  Guests were treated to a performance by Kate Edgar’s ‘Catch of the Day’ sea shanty choir.

Downton Link is entirely run by volunteers, and supports over 200 people, who would otherwise find it difficult to get out and about to appointments and to manage shopping etc.  Link Chairman, John Matthews said, “We are always seeking new drivers, transport coordinators and others willing to offer some of their time to support our efforts to provide vital transport to those in need.”

Volunteering with Link is flexible and rewarding, and if you can spare a few hours a month, and would like to find out more, please contact 513807, email info@downtonlink.org.uk or visit www.downtonlink.org.uk
