Wiltshire Council thinks again on Salmon Farm

Environmental assessment requested
The plans for an inland salmon farm on the site of the former trout farm have been subject to a legal challenge. Wiltshire Council approved Avon Valley Salmon’s planning application for a canopy to cover the area in May. However, in June, Communities Against Factory Farming (CAFF) submitted a judicial review claim to the High Court, arguing that an environmental impact assessment (EIA) should have been carried out. CAFF has said that the council has since written to the group indicating that it intends to rescind the planning permission. Avon Valley Salmon owner Julian Connor said that the council had not previously required an EIA but had now decided that one was necessary. He said the change would delay the project by around six months, rather than prevent it from going ahead.
