Cuckoo Fair - back in 2025

Latest update

Last November the Cuckoo Fair Committee took the difficult decision to cancel the 2024 Fair. This was for a number of reasons: the cost of living crisis had an impact, but the main reason was the increasingly complex regulatory and statutory requirements needed to run the largest free event in Wiltshire and the ensuing requirement to have sufficient volunteers to deliver the Fair safely.  A number of key personnel had left the Cuckoo Fair Committee and needed to be replaced.

The committee are delighted to announce that behind the scenes, they have managed to recruit a significant number of new personnel. They are indebted to these people coming forward to take on specific roles within the Committee, as they will help future planning. The Committee now feel able to go ahead and plan for the next Cuckoo Fair with the new recruits helping shape plans for 2025.  They have been reviewing experiences and lessons learnt from the recent fairs and also the comments from the public. They are looking at different options, amongst which the main ones are:  to change the location of the Fair, change the date and/or change the nature of the Fair. They are planning to seek feedback over the summer.  There is more information on the Cuckoo Fair’s website (cuckoofair.co.uk), including a section on Frequently Asked Questions.

A spokesperson for the committee said, “We hope that all alternative fundraising activities will be a huge success and can only apologise for our decision to cancel this year’s Fair - but we are sure that you understand. Rest assured that we are currently planning to run the Cuckoo Fair in 2025!”
